THE SACRED GEOMETRY OF SOUND

Whether you've walked down a street and heard the mesmerising echoes, been to a Festival and witnessed a frenetic jam by the campfire or seen one at a concert or healing meditation, heard it in movies and soundtracks - the Hang has no doubt captivated your attention.

Invented by PANArt's Felix Rohner and Sabina Schaerer in Bern, Switzerland, the Hang has been researched and developed, refined and tuned to produce an immaculate sound and truly memorable experience both in playing and listening. The steel pan drum was the inspiration behind PANArt's development of the Hang instrument (often referred to as a 'drum' due to the percussive way many people play it and hence logically associate it with the aforementioned).

This site pays homage to their years of hard efforts and hopefully spreads the words and sounds of this fascinating instrument. I hope to facilitate the community of Hang players providing them with real tools and invite those who are still 'Hang-less' to join in the fascination and unfathomably long quest to find one...the path carries straight on...

The forum here has somewhat died off and the majority of experienced Hang and handpan players can be found at www.handpan.org

Recently, the second-hand Hang market prices have rocketed as more people discover this fantastic instrument and want to get one. With the makers now taking a prolonged break from manufacture, these prices are likely to remain high. Also, in an effort to curb this price hoik on eBay, the makers have introduced the signing of an agreement not to resell Hangs on the open market with first giving them the option to 'buy' it back and pass it on to someone who needs it - whether this holds or not, only time will tell. I think it might just...

There are just under 5,000 Hangs in circulation, so getting hold of one can be tricky (inflated costs aside). Hopefully, with enough support, we can build a calendar of regular International events featuring Hang players, so you can at least attend those events to enjoy playing a Hang and Hang-in' Out in da UK wid da boys...

The truth is, if you tap into the community and make friends, you might find a path that leads to playing and eventually getting a Hang. A quest that sometimes borders on the mystical!

You could always just subscribe to the Hang Marketplace RSS Feed and check in from time to time - you might be lucky and get a second hand instrument of the finest steel!

You can also view the hang instrument links page but rather browse through the, hopefully exhaustive, list of Hang Players and Artist's Directory or Catalogue?

IF YOU CREATE MUSIC WITH A HANG and have RECORDED MUSIC with CD's to sell, share, schenk, or shabba then PLEASE do let me know if your are not on our Hang Artists Directory - we'll be speaking soon...torbz@hangfan...

All the best,
