There is video..... Tom managed to sum up some energy and eye sight to capture the lesser spotted drunken colley fishing in the wee hours... line attached to the rod and nowhere near the water LOL

We've already got plans for next year squire... we've got the bigger barn as well as the chicken shed for next year so quiet space for playing Hang will be available.... we're also working on a chill out tent for the camping field.

Alas this year was a little unfortunate for the wedding party being in the bigger barn Saturday night... and have to admit the beatles tribute band were a somewhat dissapointing addition to the weekend... but hopefully they didn't annoy everyone too much and James the landowner was very appologetic.

As far as number go we're happy with the amount we've got currently... some were up for it increasing but the majority prefer the intimacy of 100 people... we'll see how feedback goes over the next few months before tickets go on sale next year.

Keep the feedback coming though.... love it!

Next year there will of course be a set from the one and only greatest band that ever lived... the Hutchinson/Colley Syndrome with our first single "Broken Man" LOL

Cheers for the nice review Torbz... special wasn't it smile thanks for coming... and thanks for cheering me up (even though you didn't know) on Saturday night when i was sat in my tent, covered in baby sick at my witts end and then I hear you sat around the fire singing "One Way" by the Levellers... one of my favourite songs of all time by my favourite band of all time... really put a smile on my face, thanks! smile

Hi one and all... just wanted to say WOW... what a weekend!!!! by far the most successful HangOut to date, the vibe was amazing and you guys who came are just incredible, without all your energy, positivity and musical ability the HangOut would never be as amazing as it is.

I'd like to send a massive thankyou to everyone that came, but largely to Rob for having had such a hard year personally, the HangOut was supposed to be the highlight chill out weekend of the year for him and unfortunately with his kids coming down sick closely followed by himself on Sunday I know just how gutted he was to be leaving the hangOut - so for you buddy, we'll make next year even better to make up for this year for you!!!! (is it possible to make it any better though?  )

I'd also like to send a MASSIVE thankyou to Russ who to be honest withouth his help this weekend a few of you lot out there wouldn't have got to the HangOut or to the supermarket and for us we'd of had no sound system, lights or muscle to help set up and set down!! big thanks Russ!

Other thanks go to Ant & Lin for their incredible efforts in the kitchen to keep everyone fed and watered, they did an amazing job and seriously if you didn't eat some of Lin's dahl on Saturday night then i'm sorry to say you totally missed out, it was beautiful!

Pete and his beautiful people Dan and Tom for helping with the sound, Tom and Nik for gate duty and toilet cleaning, Lee and Steve for helping us set up and gate duty, Vicki for her keen eye with the photographs of the weekend (once we've got them sorted they'll be up on the website for all to see), all the performers for getting up there and entertaining us on Saturday night you guys seriously rock and its great to see such diverse playing styles it makes the event so interesting THANKS! and lastly to all of you lot who came, without you there wouldn't be a HangOut and for that we thank you all for you efforts and energy in getting to the event... it was a truely magical experience this year!

If anyone has any great ideas on how we could make things better at the HangOut, please either post them here or do email us at: hangoutuk@hotmail.co.uk we want to continue evolving the event each year and continue to make it the most amazing experience for everyone.

Thanks to everyone and here's to next years event

Hey Seabreeze and welcome to the forum... don't feel guilty about buying a 2nd hand Hang, sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do to get something you want, its not your fault either that people out there stick their Hang on ebay at ridiculous starting prices but thats the way of the world unfortunately.

You should be glad that you now own one... I can't imagine having waited 1 year for a reply from PANart.... its no wonder people lose faith and turn to the auctions for buying a Hang.

Your Hang will bring you many hours of pleasure that is for sure and never rule out a retune by PANart... you may never need a retune either, these things are pretty durable when played and looked after correctly.

Welcome to Hang Ownership and never feel guilty, you did nothing wrong but buy something you really wanted and had the opportunity to get hold of.

Dude this is a forum to discuss Hang... it seems some of your other posts are totally irellevent to the forum where you're reviewing camera equipment??? all good and well but you don't introduce yourself? are you into Hang or here to spam?

If all you are doing is selling a Hang, at whatever price you can, why post it on forums where you know you're going to get people's backs up... you already know the thoughts of a lot of people in the community which is indicated in your first post?

Sorry if I have confused you with Bruce Copley, its just the eBay account you are using to sell the hang is almost identical to the one he used to try and sell one he had a while ago? if you are not Bruce then you do know Bruce as this has been stated on another forum, so maybe I have had some "assumptive thinking" but then certain things have pointed towards this thinking.

Nothing anyone says on here is going to get anyone anywhere either we'll just go around in circles on the same topic... you do what you want, you will anyway!

Sad times... truely sad times

Just noticed you may have started the bidding at $5,500 but its got a reserve on it as well??? enough said sad

Nothing wrong with getting what you want for something that you own, the issue lies with the start price! Why put a hang out on eBay with a hugely inflated starting bid, let the people dictate the cost of the instrument not your own personal greed.

Do i agree with what you've said below, yes I do, PANart have in a way caused the issues surrounding the hang prices by stopping production (the bottleneck), much like anything in this world when it ceases production it usually goes up in price as collectors start to dictate the price.... but a starting price of $5,500 is in my opnion outright greed... but that is my opinion and someone out there with money to burn will probably think differently.... but if it goes like the last time you placed this hang on eBay it'll probably remain unsold.

No fire and brimstone here Bruce, it's your Hang, you do with it what you want.

Never... I can't believe the Hang were not mistreated to begin with to require retunes! people need to treat them with respect, don't use soft mallets and don't hit them too hard (or drop them), like anything they can go out of tune, and the downside of it is you have to send it back to PANart, unless of course you know how to tune a Hang yourself.... which is more complex than steel pans, people buy and play those but not everyone can retune them themselves either.

I know pleanty of people that busk with their Hang and have never had any problems, remember new they are 1200 euros, mine when i got it cost me £350... eBay is pushing prices up to still unaffordable prices but that's only through the demand, those that buy at the silly prices probably do not need to busk you're right... but some spend, save bloody hard all the money they can just to own one.

Personally, although these steel tongue drums are ok, they're not the Hang and to be honest i'd rather spend my money on a proper wooden tongue drum, the sound and resonance is way superior to that of the steel, wood is way more natural in tone and sweet on the ear. www.tonguedrum.com

I'd imagine with the Milltone drum that you can apply magnets to certain parts of the metal to change the pitch, I would think that if you knocked it out of tune by bending the metal then you'd have to know what to do to bring it back in tune... much like the hang.

There are no alternatives for the Hang at this time, the Halo is not on general release as yet, the BELLart from Spain is out there but the tone is still not quite that of the Hang and the waiting list is long.... 1200 euros too so the same price as the Hang but not yet the quality of the Hang... make your own mind up on that one.

Halo is the best bet for anyone in the US, but $1500 I though it was coming in at less than that to buy... more like $1200? the market dictates the price of these instruments... I do however believe that new makers to the instruments shouldn't have comparable prices with PANart, the experience and the client base just isn't there for them and they could well be setting themselves up for a fall... better in my eyes to start low, build the product and then increase the price.... but that's just my opinion.

Kalimba are nice though... you still have to pay for the quailty there too? right?

hey there fella,

Just to comment on the Hang, they don't need a retune every year.. in fact if kept well and not mistreated then really the hang should never go out of tune. I think Kyle with the Halo is only adding the tuning of the halo annually as a preferred method to keep your Halo in tip top condition, but it should definately not be neccessary to retune once a year, that's costly!

Sorry to hear about your failing health, I hope there is something they can do for you, it'd be a shame for to not get your hands on a Hang, and hopefully your plight will be read from someone on hear that might live locally and would happily make a sick man happy!

Greetings Hang owners, fans and music lovers to the first of our 2009 HangOut updates

HangOut 2009 tickets go on sale 1st March

We're still busy firming up acts for 2009 but those who have already confirmed to play Saturday night can be found on our website www.hangoutuk.co.uk

Headlining acts this year include Andi Steil from Germany, a professional musician and comedian Andi has been playing the German comedy circuit for years, with his hillarious fusion of music and comedy he's a great act and one which we are very proud to present at this years event.

Wa-Dohm are also returning for their second year at the event, with countless international performances under their belt these guys are fast becoming one of the biggest names in Hang throughout Europe. With thousands of hits on their youtube videos you will not be dissapointed with their excellent mix of hang and Didgeridoo.

Other performances this year will come from In2Nation, Spyros and Keona and incormation on these acts can be found on the home page of the website, so check them out!

More acts are waiting to confirm but we can guarantee the music this year will be awesome.

We're keeping the same feel and vibe of previous events with a limit on tickets to 80 people again for 2009 so book early to avoid dissapointment.

Friday night is open Mic night

Saturday night is performance night

Sunday night is accoustic night

We're working on sorting workshops throughout the day over the weekend and will be able to update the website as soon as we have confirmation. Anyone interested in giving workshops on absolutely anything over the weekend please do get in touch, we've previously had workshops over the weekend on Didgeridoo, Dulcimer and even a Gong wash, so really anything goes and adds to the flavour of the weekend.

Spread the word of the weekend and we hope to see some familiar and friendly faces back at the 2009 HangOut, until then take care and hope to receive your booking forms soon.

Thanks

Kelly & Rob

Its bloody brilliant though.... I really love the iphone smile

Awesome!!! it's an amazing sound that will continue to have the same effects on you every time you hear it, welcome to the wonderful world of the Hang.

If you bump into the Hang player again, try and get his name, i'd be certainly interested in knowing who that is as I live very close to Kingston upon Thames and it wasn't me LOL, always nice to hoo up with other Hang players... and who knows next time you're wandering down the high street... there could be two of us!

hey... it's kind of difficult to say at this stage without actually seeing or more important hearing a Halo, however I have great faith in Kyle at Pantheon and I think he will not allow a lesser instrument to market for the sake of profits. He is extremly keen to win the approval of PANart and therefore i do think he will produce an instrument that is definately comparable with the Hang.

I can't wait to see the Halo, it's been a while in the making and it will be good for the world to have another maker producing a quality instrument or piece of musical art.

I'm in Austin , TX looking for a hang. I am a huge fan unfortunately i don't have the huge amount of cash these things are going for. There has to be another way right?? Some bloke here is selling his for 10K USD , unfortunately I don't have that amount of money to purchase one. So does anyone have the instructions on how to get one without selling my internal organs?

Well selling your internal organs might be a little desperate, how about an arm and a leg though?

Only one way to get one without paying silly prices, and that is to get on the list with PANart, their address details are in the How & where to buy a hang thread on this forum.

Unfortunately at this time the waiting lost to own a Hang from PANart strecthes way into 2010 but it's still worth getting on the list and to start saving now. Cost this year for a PANart Hang was €1200, it may rise some what for the next year but nothing compared to the silly prices on eBay.

Another possibly option would be www.pantheonsteel.com who are currently in development of their own Hang called the Halo, due for release imminently but already with a 6 month waiting list, this will cost around $1500 from Pantheon and so far we're pretty confident that Kyle there is working on a very good version but we won;t know more until he releases sound bites of video of the Halo being played.

Failing the above, i know a good surgeon who will take a kidney and a lung for $10,000 smile
