Torbz dude you here ?????

hey torbz,

i see on your link page the link for the sunrisecelebration and under it it says

"A festival in the UK I help to organise where Hang players go..."

Go what dude, would i be jumping to conclusions by thinking the word that follows is free ????????????????????

Exciting if thats the case smile

please enlighten me dude smile very intrigued

only if your brave lol we will be comunal living inside the earthhouse, and with the fire buring does make it vey snug smile

so camp beds will be needed smile there are hammocks but i think due to health and safety we may not be able to use them, i stayed in the earthhouse for a week last Feb and it was a great experience and if the fire is treated well cold was not a problem, and anyway we are british its the europeans that we should be worried about they were cold at night during the hangout and that was quite mild lol wink

hello all smile

After the success of the hangout UK and hearing some of the feedback regarding wanting to meet up more and have other events for hang players to meet and play sweet music together, an idea has been born  about getting hang players together to make more music and all perform together on the sat night.

So to be clearer:

The Venue would be the earth house in Dorset

Outside                                                        Inside
http://onfinite.com/libraries/1053161/63a.jpg http://onfinite.com/libraries/1406425/ab0.jpg

The earth house is set within the site of the Ancient Technology centre, the site also has other buildings within its grounds like  Saxon round houses, roman buildings and a Viking long house, all built by hand using traditional techniques.

We would stay communally in the earth house which has a huge fire pit in the middle for warmth (and of course there are showers and toilets on site too, for the clean among us lol)

Cost:
this is the exciting bit which is a bit different, I have spoken to the manager of the site and he is very cool about this, we would charge hang players nothing to come for the weekend (you would of course have to supply food etc for yourself- but we could do some group cooking etc ???).

Now the ancient technology Centre has no funding from the local gov so they fund the project by hire of the earthouse and other events like didgeridoo festivals and storytelling nights where members of the public pay to be entertained and the profits go to the centre. So if we are not paying how will they make the money so we can use the site.  The Earthhouse would make some money not through us the hang players but by opening the doors to the earthhouse on the sat night for the public to listen to some awesome hang. We would therefore be the entertainment, some group jams, individual performances etc etc etc for a few hours on the sat night, we get to go for free and the earthhouse can make some funds smile

So the Friday night and sat day gives the people who attend the chance to prepare some group stuff, individual or even some pieces with other hang players they may not normally perform with.

So by doing it this way we get a relatively free trip and hang event while the venue can still make money  without relying on us for the  hire fee of the earth house.

Looking at a date in January 2009, dont worry yes it will be cold outside but inside it should be nice and snug smile

so really just after some feedback on this, are people up for 'The Hangover' ?

Obviously comment here but please can you email your interest so I can start to get an idea if there is enough hang players to make it work smile

What can i say except wow that was one of the best weekends ive had in ages, the hangout was a great success, we had over 80 people attend from all over the world and 25-30 hanghang smile

The music was awesome, the jamming was just out of this world and the people were really beautiful smile It was great seeing the old faces from last year and also great to meet some new faces and even better to meet people from the hang forums who i have been chatting hang with for ages now, it was good to put faces to names smile

We are all booked up for next year in September for hangoutUK 2009, i would advise you book early this year to avoid disappointment,  this year when the tickets were sold out we had 20 odd disappointed people who will be looking to get a ticket early doors smile

Thanks for everyone who helped make this weekend a great one.

Rob

Ps look out because HangoutUK will be holding an early year hang event in spring in one os the most individual buildings in the whole of the UK will update shortly smile

I see the tickets for the hang-out are sold out. Does anyone know if it is possible to get returns or cancellations ? My hubby and I would love to come! I don't have a hang, but I could bring my steel pan...

Yes they are all sold out sorry raygun sad we extended the numbers to 80 people and extra 30 tickets and they went in a week and we cannot fit anymore in this year as we only have the smaller barn and as last year we had 40 people we thought it would be the same this year but it exploded with people wanting to come !!!!!!!

As for returns and cancellations we have contacted most people with tickets and they are all attending if a ticket becomes available we will put you on the list (which is growing) and inform you if a space for you becomes available.

next year is booked and tickets will be on sale for hangoutUK 2009 in the spring

I was jamming with two other Hang players at the weekend, and was playing with the Hang on it's side (vertical) and doing percussive slaps and udu on the Gu side with finger taps on the Ding.

The metal was cold at the start as it had been sitting in the car for the evening, in our typical british summer evening climate (about 8 degrees celcius!).

after 10 mins of moderate playing, the Ding was completely de-tuned! I freaked thinking that I'd been squeezing it too hard between my legs in throngs of Hang heaven - but it wasn't that at all. The ding was a semitone lower (a C sharp) and I was starting to worry.

I left it sitting for a few hours at room temperature and, thank god, it went back to normal.

It makes me wonder why the temperature changes can seem to have such an effect on the steel/brass mixture. I was wondering if the steel expands or contracts at a different rate to the steel, and that that might be the cause of such dramatic de-tuning with temperature change.

Does anybody have any experience/information in this area that might support this theory? does it happen with the MK1 Hangs?

Would be interesting to find out... smile

Core bet that got your heart going torbz smile i get a slight change in hot weather but not so much in cold, but saying that it does play differently in cold not so responsive but the notes do not change!!!! as for Mk 1 hang i can only say what kelly has said before temp does effect it but it always goes back smile as at hang music dude smile

You go playing on the side personally i much prefer the sounds I get from playing ding side and gu side together smile

Better.... how do you know if it can be better Rob, we haven't had this years yet? it might be rubbish next year smile

It won't be, but better? it'll be as good as it was last year and the same as it will be this year... and that is GREAT!!!!

smile smile smile smile smile smile

get off my back lol bully !

We have extended the amount by 20 tickets due to demand but alas that is it we are truly SOLD OUT please do not ask because due to  health and safety we just can not fit anymore poeple in sad PLease do not just turn up without a ticket as you will not be able to entre the site due to the numbers stated by H & S but on a good note is that due to popular demand the fest is on next year but will most deffo be bigger and better smile
