Topic: Redevelopment of HangFan!! NEW HANGOUT Chat Room - proper cool...!

Everyday at 6pm GMT, you can meet fellow Hang Fan's in the brand new chat room http://www.hangfan.co.uk/hangout.


Thanks to 15 months of working with a top web application firm, I'm going to implement a brand new system for HangFan - with a highly capable membership system that will allow all sorts of very funky things to happen in the future....

Also, I've secured a deal with successful online record label which supports artists really actively and will enable HangFan visitors to publish and sell their music online for download. More details on that later...

A brand new jukebox function that wil enable users to upload Hang tracks themselves for inclusion into the jukebox (The Hangar).

Multiple other possibilities like streaming radio play and and and......

Lots to look forward to in 2009 at HangFan!!! smile

This is great Torbz. Your site was an awesome resource to begin with. But this takes it to the next level. Are you going to have the open chat rooms again? Those were great. Maybe a way to do some online jams? Mmmm. Nice work man. wink

Cheers for checking by - good to see you(r writing) again!
It's been on my list for so long to improve Hangfan and I've finally found a bit of time to get started.

The chat room idea was good but sorely under-used so it didn't merit maintaining. However, there might be some open-source stuff out there that is slicker, easier to use and easier to maintain, so I'll have a look around to see what's available. I think then, once installed, it would be good to have a daily time to meet online, say 6pm GMT (10am on the US west coast?) then people can aim to be there on time and it be a bit more organised.

On the jamming front, it's technically quite difficult to do such things (at least for me) - though it's not impossible to find other ways to share creatively - like making high quality wave files available for others to download and embellish.

Also, a well-used streaming or upload/download service like this on my server could get expensive, so without funding or support from the community, it's not a viable proposition. However, there are also other place to host files where bandwidth and space are not an issue. In fact, I have just the very service, but I'll need to go about integration first.

I could imagine that sort of thing being quite cool - there are similar examples elsewhere online, I'm sure.

Anyhow, keep those ideas rolling, and I'll do my best to implement whatever makes sense and is within my capabilities.

Of course, theoretically and technically, the sky is the limit, it a question of resources at the end of the day (both financial and time-wise).

haha...bloody well hope not!! We'd love to come to the Hangout this year...
Technically round 6pm is the key time to get people in for a good natter.
I'll try and get on tomorrow around that time...or propose another time?

(Was thinking of U.S. crowd too, it'd be like 10am-1pm for them)
