Topic: Hang community snobbery - holier than thou bullshit - facist regimes

Ok, a title designed to catch your attention.
But i'd like to state for the record, on this forum, no admin or mod will cast aspersions upon or penalise your attempts to discuss other instruments like the Hang or for calling the Hang a spaceship that should only be played with 5lb mallets!

There are a few particular characters in the Hang community (who run Hang websites) who are so absorbed in their own sense of self-importance that every forum post they write pretty much stinks to high-heaven of arrogant, nepotistic over-inflated egoism - if not near messianic hang-complexes.

In case you hadn't noticed, we've got enough of that bullshit in the world already - like we really need any more of it.

Opinionated, I know, even out of order - point is - here, you have the freedom to express yourself and your relationship to the Hang in any way and the only people who'll love or hate you for it will be other hang community members - not the admins or mods.

People - it's time to come together, not find something else to prove you're always right to counteract those deep-seated insecurities you have...

Read the forum rules if you're not sure what they are. We've been here for a good few years and they still stand true.

Life is lighter and warmer at hangfan...

Having just come back from the hangforum.con and read some of the topics there - it's quite clear where part of the aforementioned issues deviate from - the attempt to provide a community-led forum but actually this is just a pretext to rule with an iron fist. When something doesn't go the admins way with a discussion - all comes to a close - people get silenced - discussion dies and evolution stops.

It's sad, a waste and pathetic and it won't happen here.

We all say stupid things and we should have the humility to accept that we can always be wrong and often are. Opinions are so strong about this instrument - probably because it can emote such powerful energy - music has that habit - roll with it.

We should be celebrating all that is good about being musicians, listeners, receivers of good vibes and catalysts to change in the wider sense - not inspecting whether its the Helmholz widget or the dolphin flange that makes it so nice - leave that to the typically technically anal and let them stew in their little golden pot of self-fulfillment.

The freedom already is and so it should be.

The interweb is one of the few remaining bastions of freedom regarding speech, opinion, bullshit and all things in between...

I constantly advise my clients day to day that you should always impose as little as possible on your website viewers or members - be it minimising clicks or dictating they way they have to interface with your website. this extends in part to this forum and hangfan at large.

Were it not for the visitors and viewer, fans and users, this website would mean nothing - therefore its primary function must be to serve their needs and wishes - the 'common purpose' - which in this case is stated by the title of the site - Hang Fan - FAN: not expert, or snob, or beginner, or hang-i-speak-to-felix-so-I'm-ultra-important-fan - just hang fan!

this is hence a place of discourse, discussion, idoicy, rants, ramblings, peace, love, appreciation, sharing and companionship through the journey of being a hang fan.

This is the true essence of a community - in existence only because of its members, not because I demand or dictate attention to satisfy my own needs. b*llocks to that - that's human v.1 - I want to see human v.2 now...
