Topic: Quest: Making our own Hang!!!

Eversince I listen to a Hang drum I really love it. Just like other uncommen instruments. Like the Theremin. Now I getting to the point to buy one. But I discovered it is worth it to make them myself. Since a friend of me also wants one we will build it together. The asking prices are like 2 month wages. So I am happy to make them and spend that time to save 2 month wages. If some people got some usefull tips making one please do tell. Also if anyone likes to help creating a prototype you are more then welcome to work on it together. Tools and materials and energy I got. Just need some expertice.

Thanks

Re: Quest: Making our own Hang!!!

Good luck with your efforts. However, it's not the shaping of the instrument that makes the magic sound, it's years of experience learning the steel and learning how to tune it. Sure, you can get a note, an F for example. I was able to tune my F back. BUT you will have a VERY hard time tuning in the 5th and 12th harmonics to that F (in this case) to make that rich sound and get that warm timbre. There have been so many that have tried, like this person

This is a great effort, but it gives you an idea just how hard it is to create that wonderful sound.

I wish you all the luck in the world, as it would be good to know there are more ways to get a Hang. But now you may have a better idea of just how hard it will be! Look forward to hearing your work's progress!

Cheers!
