Well!! What the f*ck can I say!
It was magical and full of truly excellent Hang artistry among many other forms of artistic creation!
Lovely site, great weather, lots of good live performances, excellent food, extremely drunken Colley's, warm fires 'til dawn, 1.5 hours sleep and then a long drive home on a Sunday evening...and enough Hanghang to sink a battleship.

PHEW!

Marvellous. I'll reserve two tickets for next year right now.

If you've not yet been, go.
If you've been, go again.

Re: HangOut UK 2009 Reviews and Comments

Hi one and all... just wanted to say WOW... what a weekend!!!! by far the most successful HangOut to date, the vibe was amazing and you guys who came are just incredible, without all your energy, positivity and musical ability the HangOut would never be as amazing as it is.

I'd like to send a massive thankyou to everyone that came, but largely to Rob for having had such a hard year personally, the HangOut was supposed to be the highlight chill out weekend of the year for him and unfortunately with his kids coming down sick closely followed by himself on Sunday I know just how gutted he was to be leaving the hangOut - so for you buddy, we'll make next year even better to make up for this year for you!!!! (is it possible to make it any better though?  )

I'd also like to send a MASSIVE thankyou to Russ who to be honest withouth his help this weekend a few of you lot out there wouldn't have got to the HangOut or to the supermarket and for us we'd of had no sound system, lights or muscle to help set up and set down!! big thanks Russ!

Other thanks go to Ant & Lin for their incredible efforts in the kitchen to keep everyone fed and watered, they did an amazing job and seriously if you didn't eat some of Lin's dahl on Saturday night then i'm sorry to say you totally missed out, it was beautiful!

Pete and his beautiful people Dan and Tom for helping with the sound, Tom and Nik for gate duty and toilet cleaning, Lee and Steve for helping us set up and gate duty, Vicki for her keen eye with the photographs of the weekend (once we've got them sorted they'll be up on the website for all to see), all the performers for getting up there and entertaining us on Saturday night you guys seriously rock and its great to see such diverse playing styles it makes the event so interesting THANKS! and lastly to all of you lot who came, without you there wouldn't be a HangOut and for that we thank you all for you efforts and energy in getting to the event... it was a truely magical experience this year!

If anyone has any great ideas on how we could make things better at the HangOut, please either post them here or do email us at: hangoutuk@hotmail.co.uk we want to continue evolving the event each year and continue to make it the most amazing experience for everyone.

Thanks to everyone and here's to next years event

tickets on sale early february 2010... watch this space!!

Kelly & a very tired and worn out Rob smile

Cheers for the nice review Torbz... special wasn't it smile thanks for coming... and thanks for cheering me up (even though you didn't know) on Saturday night when i was sat in my tent, covered in baby sick at my witts end and then I hear you sat around the fire singing "One Way" by the Levellers... one of my favourite songs of all time by my favourite band of all time... really put a smile on my face, thanks! smile

Re: HangOut UK 2009 Reviews and Comments

Don't have any criticisms at all. The venue was in need of a small upgrade on the watering/cleaning/bathing services front, but only by need of convenience for handling child-related upkeep!

Scrapping the Beatles cover band next door might be a good one for next year! smile

The percussion did become overwhelming at times, though that was testament to the rising energy - I really giggled at Mick trying to bring the wave of a jam down in volume, and then watched as he failed and the vibe took hold again and everyone got louder and straight back into it again!!

There's so many possibilities for the event that the mind boggles. In all honesty, as was proven by Sunrise this year, small is often more beautiful. Intimacy is key - knowing and meeting everyone else is a major plus - plus a safe environment for the kiddies.

If there's any help or advice, or infrastructure or contacts you need for a slightly bigger event, I can certainly help or pass on the relevant contacts. We're been there a few times now! so I certainly have some insight into events of a slightly bigger nature. smile

I would suggest a max of 250-300 people though, otherwise you'll lose the intimacy and risk the underbelly of trouble-makers that can revolve around larger events.

Very noteworthy was the VALUE! Don't raise the costs too much. £30 a person would be prime. At the end of a season, it's nice to come to the ultimate wind-down.

Likewise, keep the food affordable and people will be sooo much happier - I hate the daylight robbery of Festival food - and Lin obviously worked hard but I hoped she made a good chunk for her efforts.

You could have two venues, one for hanghang and quiet, non-percussive only and another as it was this time - where cross-fusion and anything goes rule - though actually, I think most people might agree that it worked best with no rules! It's a hard call to make, and actually a voice is saying to me that letting freedom rule is probably much more the way. Also, having two venues may fragment the small number of attendees, and having everyone together makes it feel much more like a family.

Venue room itself could be a bit bigger, but only to allow a few more people in - other than that, it was a lovely room and served the purpose really well.

Big hugs to Rob & Kelly (and families) for their efforts and all who helped. Do get well soon and don't be sad - it will happen again and you'll experience all the magic!

Regards the Levellers - anytime mate - glad it was so well-timed... smile xxx

Re: HangOut UK 2009 Reviews and Comments

Ahhh yes...the colleys...I think you were 'otherwise indisposed' at the time.

Never mind...I'm sure someone got video footage...especially the naked duck charming in the river bit....

Re: HangOut UK 2009 Reviews and Comments

There is video..... Tom managed to sum up some energy and eye sight to capture the lesser spotted drunken colley fishing in the wee hours... line attached to the rod and nowhere near the water LOL

We've already got plans for next year squire... we've got the bigger barn as well as the chicken shed for next year so quiet space for playing Hang will be available.... we're also working on a chill out tent for the camping field.

Alas this year was a little unfortunate for the wedding party being in the bigger barn Saturday night... and have to admit the beatles tribute band were a somewhat dissapointing addition to the weekend... but hopefully they didn't annoy everyone too much and James the landowner was very appologetic.

As far as number go we're happy with the amount we've got currently... some were up for it increasing but the majority prefer the intimacy of 100 people... we'll see how feedback goes over the next few months before tickets go on sale next year.

Keep the feedback coming though.... love it!

Next year there will of course be a set from the one and only greatest band that ever lived... the Hutchinson/Colley Syndrome with our first single "Broken Man" LOL
